The Saudi East-West pipeline is narrowly favored to restart by the October 1 deadline.

The balance of dated evidence leans against a restart by October 1: repair estimates range from three to five weeks, Saudi officials have not provided a restart date or damage assessment, and multiple processors report no official communication. However, the forecast is narrowly favored because the shutdown was described as precautionary, the US Energy Secretary stated the pipeline should be back 'soon,' a similar attack in April was resolved within days, partial operation qualifies as a restart, and the 17-day window falls at the low end of the repair estimate. These factors together make a restart more likely than not despite the visible headwinds.

Points to YES

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on September 14 that the pipeline should be back online 'soon,' indicating diplomatic pressure and confidence in a quick restart.
Wright stated in a Bloomberg Television interview that 'I think you’ll see that pipeline running back soon.'
A similar drone attack in April 2026 reduced the pipeline's capacity by 700,000 bpd, but full capacity was restored within days, demonstrating Saudi ability to repair quickly.
The Saudi Energy Ministry announced on April 12 that full capacity had been restored after an earlier strike.
Partial operation of the pipeline qualifies as a restart under market rules, and one official indicated that part of the system could resume while repair crews remain on site.
A regional official told AP that part of the system could resume operations while repair crews remain on site.
