Sep 19 forecast

Recent diplomacy keeps the ceasefire intact, but repeated U.S.-Iran hostilities and open threats make it highly likely.

The evidence tilts against a clean, settled peace, because the two sides have kept exchanging threats and limited force even after the ceasefire language. Markets currently treat this outcome as clearly uncertain, and the strongest reason the forecast leans toward continuation is that no supplied source shows a new qualifying U.S. strike on Iran after September 18. Even so, the recent record is strained enough that the outcome is driven as much by the absence of an executed attack as by any visible de-escalation.

Points to YES

No supplied source shows a new qualifying U.S. military action against Iran after September 18, which keeps the ceasefire alive for now.
A Sept. 18 report described the ceasefire status as remaining stable with no qualifying U.S. military actions indicated.
Diplomatic signaling is still active, with both sides publicly leaving room for talks.
On Sept. 17, Trump said the United States was “hopefully toward the end” of its war with Iran and that Iran wanted to make a deal.

Points to NO

The recent record includes actual U.S. strikes on Iranian targets and other kinetic exchanges, not just rhetoric.
On Sept. 1, U.S. forces struck IRGC targets including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites.
Trump has publicly framed the situation as one where major attacks could resume, which keeps escalation on the table.
On Sept. 17, Trump said he was approaching a critical juncture over whether to restart massive attacks on Iran.
Independent conflict monitors describe the exchange of fire as still ongoing, which suggests the ceasefire remains fragile.
On Sept. 16, Opinio Juris said the exchange of fire had not effectively ceased and the parties had repeatedly engaged in hostilities against one another.
